Type 51C Luzhou / Luhai II AAW DDG - Design
In April 2002, China signed a purchase agreement with Russia for two Russian RIF-M ship-borne area air defense missile systems. In terms of hull platform, China decided to make changes based on the previous design of the single-class 051B destroyer Shenzhen, to accommodate a small RIF-M system (as the aforementioned missile is mainly equipped on large water surfaces combat ships such as Kirov-class cruisers), the model was also changed to 051C. The Type 051C destroyer entered service relatively recently, and the first ship "Shijiazhuang" entered service in 2006; the 051C destroyer had the strongest air defense performance of the People's Navy in the year, and it built two ships. The 051C destroyer uses the hull of the 051B destroyer, with a full-load displacement of about 7,000 tons. The power system is the same as 051B with steam power.
The biggest feature of the 051C destroyer is that it is equipped with the Russian-made "Rif-M" long-range regional air defense system introduced by China around 2000, and NATO code SA-N-6 "complaint"; the long-range air defense system is on Developed by the former Soviet Union over the centuries, it was heavily equipped on the Kirov-class and glorious missile cruisers of the Soviet Red Navy. Due to the numerous equipment and large volume of the Reeve-M system, the displacement of the Kirov-class and Glorious-class cruisers equipped with the system in the former Soviet Union were above 10,000 tons, and the 051C destroyer with a displacement of only 7,000 tons made a lot of changes to accommodate the system.
The RIF-M system is equipped with a 48N6E long-range air defense missile with a maximum range of 150 kilometers. It uses a cold launch method and is equipped in an 8-unit revolving vertical launch system. The missile has a length of 7.5 meters. The size of the launch system makes the height of the launch unit much beyond the main deck of 051C. Therefore, 051C only arranged two sets of vertical hairs on the platform on the upper deck of the front deck. The rear hangar of the ship was changed to a closed design, giving up the ability to carry helicopters. Above the original hangar position, 4 groups of vertical hairs were arranged, for a total of 6 groups of 48 missiles.
In addition to long-range air defense missiles, the Reeve-M system is also equipped with a 30N6E1 passive phased array radar, which is a single-area array rotary scanning with a maximum detection range of 300 kilometers and can guide 12 missile attacks simultaneously6 For different targets, on the 051C destroyer, the radar is arranged in front of the four vertical hairs at the rear of the ship; due to its heavy weight and high position, the 051C has also been fully coordinated in the design to ensure the ship Seaworthiness.
In addition to the excellent air defense capabilities of the 051C, the remaining weapons and equipment are similar to other main destroyers of the year. The stern has an H / PJ-87 100 mm single-tube gun. The center of the ship is equipped with two quadruple units. The Eagle Strike-83 anti-ship missile launcher has a total of 8 inclined arrangements, and a 730 near-aircraft gun is arranged on each side of the rear mast of the ship; the anti-submarine capability of 051C is weak in the main naval destroyers, only equipped with a SJD-9 active / passive naval sonar, due to the vertical installation of the RIF-M system, the hangar was canceled and some helicopter support facilities were removed, making it abandon aviation anti-submarine capabilities.
Since this class of ship is directly modified from the 051B destroyer, its main design features are similar to the 051B destroyer. Same as 051B, there are two sets of quadruple Eagle-83 anti-ship missile launchers behind the chimney of 051C. Due to the hull design of 051B, two sets of 7424 type triple-mounted 324mm torpedo launchers of 051C are directly installed on both sides of the deck, instead of the hidden design of 052B / C and 054. Originally, there was an open deck area under the stern of the Shenzhen ship, but the 051C was changed to a closed stern.

Similar to 052B / C, 051C installed a set of Russian-made MR-331 MINERAL-ME (NATO code: Bandstand) anti-ship missile / gun fire control radar system on the bridge.
Due to the cancellation of the Haihongqi-7 short-range anti-aircraft missile, even the type 345 fire control radar, the radar platform at the top of the 051C bridge was reduced from the second-order of the original Shenzhen to the first-order. The cabin behind 051C No. 2 Chimney is raised from a single layer of Shenzhen to a double layer, and its height is roughly the same as that of the tailgate, which may be to accommodate more electronic equipment. In addition, the satellite communication antenna platform originally located on both sides of the rear mast was moved. To the rear of the mast. The 30N6E1 phased array fire control radar of the RIF-M system is installed at the front end of the tail cymbal. According to the original design of the Luhai class, only this position can be used to accommodate the 30N6E1. Dead ends appeared in the bow direction. Due to the installation of 30N6E1 in the owl, the original 517A 517 A-band Yagi antenna air search radar was cancelled.
