Type 057K Lianyun class minesweeper

The Lianyun class was essentially a modified fishing vessel. It uses fairly basic towed mechanical sweeping gear. The 170-ton 057K port minesweeper suitable for minesweeping in Danshui Bay was the largest number of minesweeping vessels in service by the Chinese navy's minesweeping force. It was built by Shanghai Qiuxin Shipyard. Its main weapons are one type 63 37 mm twin naval gun and two 14.5 mm twin guns.

In the process of using Soviet-made minesweepers and their mine-sweeping equipment, the Chinese navy gradually discovered that Soviet-made magnetic induction mine-sweeping equipment is not suitable for minesweeping operations in areas where the sea and fresh water are mixed at the mouth of rivers and pure freshwater rivers because the conductivity of fresh water is not as good seawater. To this end, the Chinese navy began to develop a new type of minesweeping equipment that can be used in both sea water and fresh water. This is the "ring-type" mine sweeper. Its loop-shaped cable is powered by the generator on the minesweeper, which generates a strong magnetic field after being energized, and the nearby magnetic induction mine will be immediately detonated.

The 057K harbor minesweeper (retired), NATO called "Lianyun class." In 1956, the Naval Ship Repair Department proposed the development of a small-scale harbor minesweeper, which was mainly used to supplement the combat force gaps that the base minesweepers could not operate in fresh waters such as the narrow harbor estuary. At that time, the first ship product design office of the Shipbuilding Industry Administration of the First Machinery Department undertook this design task. It took two years to complete the project demonstration and the design work at each stage. Subsequently, this type of 057K harbor minesweeper was successfully trial-produced by Shanghai Qixin Shipyard. It was delivered to the Navy after it was completed on December 12, 1962.

The hull of this type of harbor minesweeper is basically referenced to the type of trawler, which is made of steel hull. It is the minesweeping ship with the largest number of service in China's naval minesweeping units.

In 1972, in response to an urgent request from the Vietnamese side, Prime Minister Zhou Enlai personally approved the Navy to dispatch a 057K harbor minesweeper to successfully remove five US MK52 mines in the Haiphong Port waters of Vietnam, thus also strongly demonstrating the boats design was successful.
