FM-3000 / FM-3000N

On November 12, 2014, at the 10th China International Aerospace Expo 2014, the new generation of medium and short-range missile weapon system FM-3000 debuted at the Zhuhai Air Show. This complex is considered an analogue of the Russian Vityaz air defense system. In this air show, the new generation of medium and short-range missile weapon system FM-3000 debuted for the first time and became one of the highlights of this air show. The complex includes a vehicle with a radar and self-propelled launchers with two blocks of 4 TPK with missiles. The design of the blocks connecting 4 TPKs together, gave rise to the assumption in a number of Chinese forums that this air defense system may be created on the basis of new anti-aircraft missiles for shipborne universal vertical launchers of destroyers of project 052D. The FM-3000 air defense missile weapon system is an advanced medium and short-range air defense missile weapon system. It has omni-directional detection and interception capabilities, strong anti-saturation attack capabilities and anti-jamming capabilities, and can effectively intercept various types of aircraft including stealth fighters and precision guided munitions. When intercepting aircraft-type targets, the maximum distance can be extended to 30 kilometers, and the maximum intercepting distance for missile targets is 20 kilometers. Mainly used for regional air defense and key air defense. Experts in the exhibition area told reporters: "FM-3000 can intercept 8 targets at the same time in 360 degrees, search and track solid-state active rotating phased array radar. The system response time is only 4 seconds, and it can conduct vertical cold launch. It will ignite after ejection."

Since the FM-3000 air defense missile was exhibited at the Zhuhai Air Show in 2014, military fans have regarded it as the best choice for four bombs. However, the biggest problem with the FM-3000 air defense missile is its range and the number of targets. The FM-3000 can intercept 8 targets at the same time. The maximum range for aircraft targets is about 30 kilometers, and the maximum range for cruise missile targets is about 20 kilometers. This range obviously does not meet the needs of warship air defense, so it needs to continue to improve. On the other hand, the 052D that year was a new product that was just put into service on March 21, 2014. There are things like mountains that need to be adapted. Naturally, there is time to wait for the emergence of new missiles. Unexpectedly, it took 7 years before the public saw the FM-3000N medium-range air defense missile.

On September 28, the 13th China International Aerospace Expo opened in Zhuhai, Guangdong. The HT-1E universal vertical launch system demonstrated for the first time demonstrated the ability of one pit and four bombs, loaded with four FM-3000N domestically-made new-type air defense missiles, and finally fulfilled the long-awaited expectations of military fans. This new type of medium-range missile is actually an improvement of the FM-3000 air defense missile that has appeared since 2014, but it has been improved in many ways, which can be called a gorgeous change in performance.

In future wars, our warships may face a concentrated attack from the opponent's precision-guided weapons. The opponent will intensively drop precision-guided weapons from multiple directions and in multiple batches to attack. Therefore, medium and short-range air defense missiles must also be capable of responding to such targets. Its multi-target engagement capabilities and high-precision detection and guidance capabilities are higher. The problem with the previous Hongqi-9 series and Hongqi-16 series of our army is that they are too large, which makes our army’s number of vertical launches even higher. Many, but the amount of ammunition carried by a pit is still too small. In addition, due to the large size of the missile, its price remains high, and the interception of general subsonic missiles is much worse. Therefore, the loading method of four bombs in one pit came into being. The representative is the ESSM missile, which is four times higher. Its bomb load and range, high precision and multi-target strike capability are sufficient for water antennas to intercept all kinds of anti-ship missiles flying from beyond the visual range.

The FM-3000N medium-range air defense missile is improved from the FM-3000 air defense missile, mainly to increase the range and multi-target engagement capability. There is no obvious difference in other appearance, so it can be inferred from the performance of the FM-3000. It is estimated that its propellant has been improved, its guided radar processing capability has been greatly improved, and the number of firepower channels has increased. This type of missile uses a cylindrical projectile, a streamlined conical black head fairing, four X-shaped layout duck-shaped foldable trapezoidal rudders on the head, and four X-shaped layout trapezoidal wings at the tail of the projectile. After the wings are folded, 4 missiles can be put into the HT-1E with a square launch tube, which is assumed to be a general-purpose large vertical launch with a caliber of 850mm. The fit is very good. From the perspective of the model in the vertical launch, the bomb is still installed. A booster is installed, and although the model is marked, its model shape is different from that of FM-3000N. The duck layout of FM-3000N is very similar to the 9M338 missile used by Doyle M1. The canopy layout of the steering gear and the control mechanism is more convenient. In the balanced state, the rudder deflection angle is the same as the missile attack angle. The rudder surface deflection can increase the lift of the missile, which is beneficial to improve the maneuverability of the missile. The performance advantage area is mainly in the middle short range low altitude.

This type of missile uses a vertical cold launch, which is ejected into the air by a gas generator, then the rocket is ignited sideways to point the missile in the threatening direction, and finally the main engine ignites to attack the target. The missile uses relayed inertial navigation plus data link commands plus active radar guidance at the end. Active radar seekers are installed in the black fairing, so that the warship guidance radar only needs to provide command guidance at the beginning and middle of the missile flight. The segment missile seeker can be left alone after it is turned on, thus improving the system's ability to resist multiple targets. The FM-3000N air defense missile intercepts a slant distance of 2 to 45 kilometers, which fully meets the requirements of range connection. The end-stage active radar guidance has high accuracy and can achieve direct impact to destroy the target. It can also use a large arc trajectory to illuminate the target from top to bottom with better strike accuracy.

The FM-3000 land-based air defense missile uses active phased array guidance radar and two-dimensional electronic scanning technology. The target is found to quickly turn the beam for a second scan for confirmation. The detection accuracy is high, and the response speed is fast, so the saturation attack capability is stronger. With a detection range of 70 kilometers, it can detect 100 batches of targets and strike 8 targets. The FM-3000N can guide 16 missiles at a time to intercept 16 targets. It has strong anti-saturation attack capability. After the radar system, the number of targets it detects will be greater.
