The first brigade, headquartered in the capital, is a combat brigade with two battalions in the capital and one at San Cristobal nearby. The second brigade, with headquarters in Santiago, has three administrative and two tactical battalions, the first in Santiago and the second, a Special Force, in the central mountains at Constanza. The third brigade is an administrative brigade at San Juan in the west. One of its battalions patrols the frontier with Haiti.

The fourth brigade has its headquarters in Valverde. One of its two battalions patrols the northern part of the border with Haiti. The fifth brigade has headquarters at Barahona, with one tactical and two administrative battalions scattered in the southwest. The sixth brigade is designated as combat support. It had five battalions — artillery, armor, medical, engineering, and transportation — and quartermaster services. The seventh brigade is designated as a training brigade.

One independent battalion, headquartered at San Pedro de Macoris, had four companies stationed at provincial capitals at the eastern end of the island. A mixed tactical battalion of army, navy, and air force infantry units headquartered in Santo Domingo reported directly to the secretary of state for the armed forces. It included a mixed Special Forces unit trained in antiterrorism.

The Brigade's mission is to execute military operations aimed at reducing, stopping, and destroying threats and activities that disrupt social coexistence and development of institutions in assigned area of operations in order to create and preserve a stable and secure environment. To be a professional, modern and organized unit that has the necessary training to respond to the threats and challenges that arise in its area of responsibility, based on the principles and values of the Army of the Dominican Republic.

Unit Values

• Honor is a moral quality that leads the subject to fulfill their own duties to the neighbor and to oneself. It is an ideological concept that justifies behavior and explains social relations.
• Discipline is a set of rules of behavior to maintain order and subordination between the members of a body or a community in a profession or a particular community.
• Vocation is the inclination or interest that a person feels in their interior to dedicate themselves to a certain way of life or a certain work.

Main Tasks

• Conduct conventional operations.

	1ra. Brigada de Infantería ERD. This light infantry unit is made up of a headquarters company and three (3) infantry battalions: the first battalion Juan Pablo Duarte, the second battalion Ramón Matías Mella and the third battalion Francisco del Rosario Sánchez. By General Order No. 136 (1958), a new brigade is created, which will be called "Central Brigade", dependent on the Chief of Staff with seat in the Headquarters of the 35th. Of the Presidential Guard, consisting of two Regiments, by General Order No. 151 (1961) of the Chief of Staff, EN, moves the seat of the First brigade of Ciudad Trujillo to Azua, with General Order No. 193 dated December 20, 1961, the First Brigade, with seat in Azua, is changed and the designation of the Central Brigade with seat in Santo Domingo was replaced by First Brigade.
	2da. Brigada de Infantería ERD. This unit of light infantry, is composed of a company of Headquarters and Five (5) Infantry Battalions: The 4th. Battalion of infantry, with seat in the fortress of the province of the Vega, the Company Headquarters of the Brigade and the 5to. Infantry battalion, with seat in the General Fortress of Division Fernando Valerio, yield of 2nd. Infantry Brigade, in Santiago de los Caballeros, the 6th. Battalion of Hunters with seat in the General Fortress Gregorio Luperón, in the Municipality of Constanza, the 7th. Infantry battalion, with seat in the Fortress of San Francisco de Macorís, Province Duarte, and the 8th. Battalion of Infantry, with seat in the Fortress of the Province of Moca.
	3ra. Brigada de Infantería ERD. This unit of light infantry is composed of a company of Headquarters and Three (3) Infantry Battalions: The 11th. Infantry Battalion, ERD., With seat in the Fortress of the Matas of Farfán, the 12th. Infantry Battalion, with seat in the GJMC Jose Maria Cabral, Fortress, San Juan de la Maguana, and the 13th. Battalion of Infantry, with seat in the Fortress of the ERD, Province of Azua de Compostela. In 1964 the Army created the 3rd. Brigade Infantry, ERD, by General Order No. 30, which also created the General Headquarters Company of said Brigade.
	4ta. Brigada Infantería ERD. The 4th. Brigade of Infantry, ERD, created by General Order No. 53 of September 5 of the year (1983), has its seat in the city of Mao, Province Valverde, in the Fortress that today bears the name of "GENERAL BENITO MONÇÃO, ERD. ", Being its first commander Brigadier General MELIDO GONZALEZ PEREZ, ERD. It is a light infantry unit, composed of a Cia. Brigade General Headquarters and two (2) Battalions, the 9th. Battalion d Macheteros "General Santiago Rodríguez", ERD, with seat in the headquarters of the Brigade, in the city of Mao, Valverde Province as well as its company headquarters and the 10th .. Infantry Battalion "General Francisco Antonio Salcedo" , With headquarters in Dajabón Province, with its Headquarters and companies, detachments and outposts, in charge of protecting the border posts, directly control the traffic of illegal, weapons and merchandise that originate in the same border line.
	5ta. Brigada de Infantería ERD. This Light Infantry unit, ERD, is located in the 2nd Fortress . Tte. Sidney Rudy Suero Rosa , ERD, of the Province of Barahona, is composed of a company of Headquarters and Two (2) Infantry Battalions: The 14th. Battalion with seat in the Fortress of the Municipality of Duvergé, Province Bahoruco, and the 15th. Battalion, with seat in the seat of the 5th. Brigade in the province of Barahona. The 5th. Brigade of Infantry of the Army of Dominican Republic, has its seat in the Province of Barahona, that in the year 1973 was soothes of 13er. Battalion of Infantry (Cacique enriquillo) that belonged to the 3rd. Brigade (San Juan de la Maguana). The 8 of September of 1993 by General Order No. 52 of the Head of Staff, was designated like seat of the 5ta. Brig. Of Inf., ERD.
	6ta. Brigada de Infantería ERD. This unit of light infantry, is composed of a company of Headquarters and two (2) Infantry Battalions: The 16th. Batallón Juan Sánchez Ramírez, ERD., with seat in the Fortress of the 6th. Brigade of Infantry, in the Province of San Pedro de Macorís. And the 17th. Battalion of Infantry ¨General Pedro Santana, with seat in the province of the Seibo. The 6th. Brigade of Infantry of the Army of Dominican Republic has its seat in San Pedro de Macorís, and the fortress takes the name of: General Pedro Santana. It was created by General Order No.09 of June 30, 2000. The organic creation of the Sixth Brigade of Infantry of the National Army, was completed when the General Headquarters Company of the Sixth Brigade and the 17th. Battalion, which added to the 16th. Battalion then formed the Brigade.
