YP - Patrol Craft
The 108-Foot Yard Patrol (YP) is used for instruction in seamanship and navigation at the United States Naval Academy and NAS Pensacola. Two YPs, 697 and 701 are stationed at Keyport, WA and used in conjunction with Torpedo Testing and Training. These craft are arranged and fitted with navigational equipment normally associated with larger ships. In the event of an emergency, the YP can be readily outfitted for use as an inner harbor patrol craft. The YP is a transverse-framed wood hull, powered by two 12V71N diesel engines.
