2007 Decommissionings

  • The John F. Kennedy is not on the 08 September 2006 decommissioning list, though she was on an October 2005 list. The Navy had decertified her flight deck due to the poor material condition of its catapults and arresting gear.
  • Amphibious transport dock Austin decommissions 27 September 2006.
  • Amphibious transport dock Shreveport decommissions 28 September 2006.
  • The command ship Coronado decommissions 30 September 2006.
  • Heron decommissions 01 October 2006 of this year instead of 30 September 2007. The ship has been offered to Greece.
  • Pelican decommissions 01 October 2006 of this year instead of 30 September 2007. The ship has been offered to Greece.
  • Attack submarine Honolulu's deactivation was moved up a year from Sept. 30, 2007, to 01 November 2006. Her bow will be used to replaced the bow of San Francisco, which was destroyed in a collision with an underwater mountain in January 2005.
  • Attack submarine Salt Lake City deactivates 03 November 2006.
  • The deep-diving research submarine Dolphin, the Navy's last diesel-powered sub, remained on the ledgers until Dec. 8, 2006, rather than Oct. 1, 2006. She will be sunk in a fleet training exercise. The Navy spent $60 million bringing Dolphin back to service after a fire in May 2002. Dolphin just recently rejoined the fleet.
  • Cardinal decommissions 30 December 2006, instead of 30 September 2007. The ship will be transferred to Egypt.
  • Raven decommissions 30 December 2006, instead of 30 September 2007. The ship will be transferred to Egypt.

2007 Decommissionings

  • Attack submarine H.G. Rickover will be deactivated March 1, 2007 instead of Sept. 30, 2007.
  • Salvage ship Salvor decommissions Jan. 12, 2007, instead of Jan. 13 and transfers to Military Sealift Command.
  • Amphibious transport dock Trenton decommissions 17 January 2007, instead of Dec. 7, 2006. It will be the first U.S. warship transferred to India.
  • Amphibious transport dock Ogden decommissions 21 February 2007, instead of Feb. 22 and will be sold to a foreign military. She has been offered to Mexico.
  • Amphibious assault ship Saipan decommissions April 27, 2007, and will be used for experiments.
  • Salvage ship Safeguard will transfer to the Military Sealift Command Sept. 26, 2007.
  • Attack submarine Minneapolis-St. Paul's deactivation date was fine-tuned from Sept. 30, 2007 to Sept. 27, 2007.
