M1069 HMMWV Prime Mover
The M1069 HMMWV Prime Mover utilized the mobility of the HMMWV and the artillery power of the M119 105mm Howitzer. It could be differentiated from other baseline HMMWV vehicles by the artillery bustle rack above the drivers compartment the stored the camo net the went over the Howitzer while in a stationary position.
When the 105mm M119 Light Howitzer entered service, the M1069 Prime Mover HMMWV was introduced. The M119 and M1069 Prime Mover were more easily air transportable than the older M102 105mm howitzer and its prime movers and the howitzer could also use newer ammunition. The M1069 was also to have been the prime mover of the M167 Towed VADS. With the introduction of the M1097 Heavy HMMWV, the M1069, based on the standard 1 1/4 ton M998, was rendered obsolete. M1097s fitted with the artillery bustle rack replaced the M1069 in the prime mover role.
