YC-122 Avitruc
The role of transport aircraft in the combat mission cannot be undervalued. These aircraft transported personnel, equipment, spare parts and other supplies to keep fighters and bombers flying. In late 1950, eight different transport aircraft were undergoing testing at Wright Air Development Center [WADC]. These included the Chase YC-122A and B Avitruc. The Chase YC-122 Avitruc was a powered version of the CG-18 glider. This YC-122C was one of only 9 built.
In 1948 Schweizer received a subcontract from Chase Aircraft for the C-122 empennage This evolved into the C-123 transport aircraft.
