Neon Response

Exercise Neon Response was conducted October 5-15, 2003 and is a bilateral EOD exercise conducted in Bahrain between the U.S. Navy and Bahrain Defence Force. EOD Mobile Unit (EODMU) 4, Detachment (Det.) 4 and the Bahrain Defence Force Field Engineering Unit came together for the annual exercise to develop common doctrine, operation and tactics.

Exercise Neon Response is just one of the more than 40 joint military exercises the U.S. Navy participates in annually with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, other foreign allies and friends, as well as other U.S. military forces in the region.

The two-week exercise consisted of a week of classroom lectures and practical applications, followed by a week of field exercises. The second week's hands-on training included demolitions, and the tools and techniques used to defeat improvised explosive devices.

Neon Response 2005

Exercise Neon Response 2005 was held Oct. 3-13, 2004. It involved Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 4 Det. 4, the Bahrain Royal Naval Force (RBNF) and the Bahrain Defense Force (BDF). During the first half of the two-week exercise, EODMU 4 Det. 4 and members of its dive locker trained 11 Bahrain Royal Navy divers in classroom and open-water dive applications while the second week of Neon Response consisted of classroom instruction that culminated in a dual-phase training evolution between the detachment, EODMU 4 Readiness and Training Det., and the BDF.

The first phase began with prosecution and remote detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The second phase consisted of hands-on, practical applications that Olsen said were an invaluable part of EOD training.
