Cooperative Tide

Exercise Cooperative Tide 98 was a Naval Control of Shipping (NCS) exercise and was the second exercise to be hosted in Canada under the NATO/Partnership for Peace (PfP) program. The aims of the exercise were to familiarize PfP nations to Allied doctrine and concepts for planning and controlling merchant shipping for protection during periods of crisis and conflict. It also promoted mutual understanding, confidence and cooperation between NATO and PfP nations, working towards inter operability in NCS operations. The exercise consisted of presentations, working seminars and problem solving, a table top exercise and observation of real-time NCS during a marine operational exercise.

Exercise Cooperative Tide 2001, an exercise in naval coastal warfare procedures using a peace support scenario, took place in Newport News, Virginia, 14-23 May. Five NATO members (Belgium, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States) and seven partner countries (Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia, Romania, Sweden and Ukraine) participated in Exercise Cooperative Tide 2001. The aim of CT 01 is to train NATO and Partner staff officers in Naval Coastal Warfare procedures by using a Peace Support Operations scenario in accordance with NATO doctrine. The exercise will demonstrate the synergy between coastal defence techniques and naval mine countermeasures. Additionally, CT 01 aims to show the coordination between coastal defence techniques and naval control of shipping, particularly in the area of port control.
