CONCLUSIONS

TF logisticians fulfill their responsibility of logistically preparing the battlefield when they gather data against pertinent battlefield components, translate those data into decision information through analysis, and contribute that critical information in the planning process. Pertinent battlefield data are found in the components of tactical logistics which facilitate, inhibit, or deny support actions. TF logisticians must understand the maneuver plan and its ramifications for support. They must continually assess the status of the components of tactical logistics, understand their implications for support, and apply them in preparing logistics estimates.

TF commanders must challenge their logisticians to assess those factors which influence the provisioning of support and accept nothing less than a thoroughly informed and prepared staff estimate. They must involve TF logisticians early in the planning process so that critical, tactical logistics data are incorporated in the plan. This means that TF commanders, operations planners, and logisticians must develop maneuver and support actions together in a single, unified plan. Success on the battlefield requires that all unit resources, including TF logistics, be marshaled during planning and brought to bear on mission tasks.

By applying tactical logistics information during the planning process, our doctrinal logistics imperatives are integrated with maneuver. Advantages found during logistical analysis are incorporated; shortcomings are resolved or minimized. The time and space requirements and restrictions of the battlefield are anticipated and dealt with so they do not impede tactical operations. Support is synchronized with maneuver, using logistics triggering mechanisms developed during planning, so that combat power is sustained throughout the mission. Table of Contents
