SAFETY

One of the most common safety problems during live fire at the NTC involves the M2 50 caliber machine gun.

The most common violations by 50 caliber machine gun crews are:

  • Failure to set headspace and timing correctly. (STP 7-11B24-SM) skill level 2/3/4. Task No. 071-313-3455.

  • Improper weapon assembly. (STP 7-11B24-SM) skill level 2/3/4. Task No. 071-313-3451.

  • Care and cleaning of the machine gun under extreme cold, hot, dry climatic conditions. (STP 7-11B24-SM) skill level 2/3/4. Task No. 071-313-3451.

  • Failure to properly load, unload, and clear the 50 cal. MG. (STP 7-11B24-SM) skill level 2/3/4. Task No. 071-313-3453.

  • Improper immediate action procedures. (STP 7-11B24-SM), skill level 2/3/4. Task No. 071-313-3453.

In concern for safety, everyone will agree our biggest problem is a lack of supervision. We as leaders must set the example. Ensure our soldiers do like they were trained. Allow no shortcuts. We must get involved with protecting ourselves and those depending on us for guidance: our soldiers.
