NCO CORNER
Throughout the FY 87 rotations, first sergeants or platoon sergeants seldom attended the team OPORD. In order for the NCO support channel to work, the NCOs must be thoroughly briefed. Sometimes critical details get lost in a platoon OPORD.
- S1 and S4 NCOs should be trained and groomed to perform the duties of their primary staff officers. In the event of a company commander's death, the S1 and S4 are the most likely replacements. Admin/log NCOs need to know how to plan and brief logistics and administrative support.
- To ensure mission accomplishment, NCOs throughout the chain of command need to know the mission and commander's intent thoroughly, and be prepared to execute in the absence of officers.
