PERSONNEL AUGMENTATION

Thirteen additional full-time support (AFTS) personnel were added above the brigade's authorized strength to facilitate the NTC rotation. Each served two consecutive 179-day tours. They were allocated as follows:

Brigade Staff:NTC Coordinator (CPT)
Logistics Coordinator (LT)
Pay Officer (LT)
Admin Specialist (SP5)
Brigade Hq Co: NTC Coordinator (LT)
Engineer Co: NTC Coordinator (LT)
Armored Bn: NTC Coordinator (MAJ)
Admin Specialist (SP5)
Field Arty Bn: NTC Coordinator (CPT)
Fire Spt Coordinator (CPT)
Admin Specialist (SP5)
Forward Spt Bn: NTC Coordinator (CPT)
Admin Specialist (SP5)

These AFTS personnel were invaluable. They came on board early enough to participate in the initial planning and were retained through the completion of the after action reports.

Augmentation Lessons Learned

Additional Personnel Requirements

Due to the magnitude of deploying and redeploying from multiple air and rail sites, this number of AFTS personnel was insufficient. In addition to the AFTS personnel listed above, the following AFTS personnel should have been added six months prior to deployment:

Brigade Staff:One Officer, Deployment Coordinator
One NCO, NTC Coordinator
One Admin Specialist
Each Battalion:One NCO, Deployment Coordinator
Each Company:One NCO, Deployment Coordinator

Supply Manager Needed

The US Property and Fiscal Office (USPFO) added one temporary supply technician for a one-year period to manage the brigade's supply transactions. This technician monitored all brigade supply requests and attended each IPR conducted jointly by the brigade and the BID. The technician established an intensive follow-up system to ensure that any requisitions still open ninety days prior to deployment were resolved and essential items received in time for loadout. The technician also deployed to the NTC as a member of the STARC cell to assist in managing any logistical problems encountered during the rotation. This AFTS technician provided continuity in brigade supply management and was an essential part of deployment preparations.
