INTRODUCTION
The 256th Inf Bde rotation was the first for a Reserve Component unit operating as a brigade headquarters at the NTC. The unit saw the rotation as an excellent opportunity to exercise the brigade with all force multipliers. The soldiers of the 256th trained extensively to prepare for the desert environment and realistic tactical scenarios offered by the NTC. The brigade faced several challenging tasks associated with its mobilization, training, and deployment to the NTC which were significantly greater in scope than previous Annual Training:
- Developing and executing a training program to prepare units for deployment, tactical training, and redeployment.
- Staging, manifesting, deploying, and redeploying personnel and equipment from multiple sites.
- Command, control, and communications with subordinate units during movements.
- Equipment draw and turn-in at the NTC.
The level of assistance received by the 256th from the BID paralleled that provided by the division to its active brigades during their preparation for the NTC. This assistance included the training support, external evaluation, and logistical support typically provided by the division to its assigned units.
Our sincere thanks to the 5th Inf Div (M), 256th Inf Bde, the Louisiana State Area Command (LA STARC) and subordinate units for the use of the background and lessons learned information.
