Chapter 1: Military Decision-Making Process

The Leaders Training Program (LTP) originated in late 1992, while the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) was located at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. The mission of the LTP is to enhance the warfighting skills of brigade and battalion commanders and their staffs in battle command, planning, coordination, integration, synchronization, and execution of combat operations. This newsletter shares tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) observed by the coaches of the LTP and validated over time by soldiers and leaders at the LTP.

The Center for Army Lessons Learned exists to share information and lessons across the Army. LTP coaches documented the observations presented in this newsletter and provided aids to assist a commander and his staff with procedures to more effectively use the Military Decision-Making Process (FM 101-5, Staff Organization and Operations, May 1997). The observations and TTP in this newsletter worked for many units undergoing the Leaders Training Program. Maybe they can work for you.
