Improving Global Health
John Kerry for President
John Kerry and John Edwards believe that addressing global health challenges - including the HIV/AIDS pandemic - is a humanitarian obligation and a national security imperative. A Kerry-Edwards administration will be committed to leading a coordinated effort to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic in America and around the world. As president, John Kerry will double the U.S. funding to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to $30 billion by 2008.
Epidemics can decimate societies and contribute to weak and failed states, which can become bases for terrorists and other criminal elements. And a strong global public health system is essential to effectively combating bioterror threats. John Kerry's global health policy will bring the best of America's scientific knowledge, financial resources, management skills, and compassion to the challenge of improving health conditions around the world. And a Kerry-Edwards administration will restore America's leadership in global health by rejecting policies driven by ideology instead of science.
