Good morning,
Great to be here in Santa Marta.
We have the EU-CELAC Summit coming up. Two years ago, we promised that we will have EU-CELAC Summit every two years. This is our promise, that we show that we are a credible, reliable partner for the Latin American and Caribbean countries.
We are miles apart, but we share the same values. We believe in international law. We believe in rules- based order. We believe in the rule of law and democracy.
And we also fight together against climate change.
We have different topics today: citizen security and fighting against organized crime. How can we work together on the multilateral fora, also to protect the international law and issues like energy, digital transition, fighting against climate change.
These are all topics. Looking forward to the discussions today.
Q&A
Q. What do you say about the absence of some personalities like Ursula von der Leyen?
You have to ask those people who are absent, but you know, there is a saying, let us be grateful for those who are present.
Q. And what do you say about the attacks of the United States in the Caribbean and the Pacific? What is the position of the European Union?
Our position is very clear, and under international law, you can use force only for two reasons, either self- defence or on the basis of UN Security Council resolution.
