In yet another flagrant breach of the fragile ceasefire with Lebanon, the Israeli military has launched an airstrike against a car in the country's western province of Mount Lebanon, critically wounding at least one person.

Lebanese media outlets reported that an Israeli drone targeted the vehicle near a mosque in the Zarout region, located between the seaside town of Jieh and Barja, about twenty kilometers (12.4 miles) south of the capital Beirut.

Footage circulated on social media platforms showed the car engulfed in flames, leaving one person seriously injured.

Five people were killed and another five were injured on Monday afternoon, when Israeli warplanes carried out around a dozen airstrikes on areas in the Baalbek-Hermel governorate.

The al-Mayadeen news television channel, citing local sources, reported that the Israeli military aircraft conducted strikes on the outskirts of Harbata and Labweh villages in the Baalbek district.

The strikes come amid a broader US-backed campaign to disarm Hezbollah, the only armed group in Lebanon capable of resisting Israeli aggression.

Lebanon's government said last week that its military would begin implementing a plan to dismantle the resistance movement's arsenal, without disclosing details.

Two Israeli wars waged against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006 were met with strong resistance from Hezbollah, resulting in the retreat of the regime in both conflicts.

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire since October 8, 2023, only one day after the Zionist entity launched a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip following a surprise operation led by Hamas.

The Lebanese resistance movement vowed to keep up its retaliatory attacks as long as the Israeli regime continued its Gaza war.

The Israeli regime escalated the conflict into a full-scale war by September 2024, killing more than 4,000 Lebanese and injuring around 17,000, most of them women and children.

The Israeli regime also martyred Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, in its aggression against Lebanon.

Although a ceasefire was reached in November 2024, Israel has been carrying out near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon, falsely claiming to target Hezbollah activities, violating the agreement.

The Israeli regime is also persisting in its occupation of five key areas in southern Lebanon, specifically Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all located in proximity to the border.

Despite near-daily Israeli airstrikes and repeated violations of Lebanese airspace and sovereignty, Hezbollah remains the only credible military force capable of confronting the occupation and preventing further Israeli incursions.

As calls to disarm the Lebanese resistance group grow louder from Washington and Israel, many in the Arab country warn that such efforts ignore the core issue of Israel's continued violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
