Government Offices of Sweden

Press release from Ministry of Defence

Published 21 August 2025

The Government has instructed the Swedish Armed Forces to offer NATO the opportunity to open a logistics headquarters in Sweden. The Swedish Armed Forces has also been tasked with preparing for and establishing the headquarters so that it is operable by the end of 2027.

Each NATO Area of Operations has a Joint Logistics Support Group Headquarters (JLSG HQ) that leads and coordinates the maintenance and transport of military units within the Area. In the near future, Sweden and the other Nordic countries will gather in NATO's Northwest Area of Operations, which will necessitate a JLSG HQ in the new Area of Operations.

This new Headquarters will be established in Enköping. It will comprise around 70 personnel during peacetime. In a heightened state of alert and ultimately war, the Headquarters will be able to expand to 160 personnel. It will be part of the NATO command structure, with staffing coordinated centrally by NATO. All Allies will have the opportunity to second staff officers there.

"NATO presence in Sweden strengthens our security and deterrence. The logistics centre assists the defence of NATO's northern flank," says Minister for Defence Pål Jonson.

The Swedish Armed Forces will continuously update the Government Offices (Ministry of Defence) on the progress of work to establish the NATO Headquarters.
