Berna, 13.08.2025 -- Through its membership in the CV90 Club (Combat Vehicle 90 operator group), Switzerland benefits from efficient and cost-effective maintenance of its Infantry Fighting Vehicle 2000 while gaining valuable insights into ongoing developments. The Czech Republic and Slovakia are now set to join the group, which facilitates information exchange among user nations. The Federal Council approved the agreement to expand the operator group at its meeting on 13 August.

The CV90, developed by Swedish manufacturer BAE Systems Hägglunds AB, is operated by numerous armed forces worldwide, including the Swiss Armed Forces, where it is designated the Infantry Fighting Vehicle 2000. To enhance cooperation in maintenance, upgrades, spare parts and ammunition procurement, configuration management and training equipment, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Finland established an operator group in 2003. The Netherlands joined in 2008, Denmark in 2010, and Estonia in 2020.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia will now join the CV90 operator group. Switzerland and the other participating countries welcome their membership and expect to benefit from both nations' operational experience with the CV90.
This decision aligns with the objectives of the Federal Council's armaments policy strategy of 20 June 2025 (available in German and French), which calls for strengthening Switzerland's defence cooperation, particularly with European countries.

Efficient, cost-effective maintenance and knowledge sharing

By exchanging information within the operator group, Switzerland is able to maintain its fleet efficiently and cost-effectively while gaining valuable insights into ongoing developments.

The CV90 operating group agreement is not legally binding and entails no financial or personnel commitments.

International cooperation in the defence sector

Switzerland maintains institutionalised bilateral and multilateral defence relationships with numerous countries. In light of the war in Ukraine, the Federal Council is further strengthening the Armed Forces' defence capabilities while placing even greater emphasis on intensifying international cooperation.
