MANILA -- Philippine Navy (PN) has allocated PHP218 million for the acquisition of 1,900 rounds of 76mm caliber 62 high explosive detonating point (HEPD) for arming the main guns of its modern warships.
According to the bid bulletin posted on the PN website, the project has a total budget of PHP218,842,103.30 and requires the winning bidder or proponent to deliver the ammunition within 400 calendar days upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed.
The PN said funding is sourced from the General Appropriations Act 2025 under PN Appropriation Funds or Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).
Submission and opening of bid envelopes is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Aug. 7 at the PN Bids and Awards Committee in Naval Station Jose Francisco, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
"Bid opening shall be conducted via blended/VTC (video teleconference). Bidders may physically attend the opening and evaluation of bidding documents or through VTC via Zoom application," the PN said in its bulletin.
Bids received in excess of the approved budget of the contract will be automatically rejected at the bid opening, it added. The pre-bid conference for the project was scheduled on July 24.
The 76mm is the primary main gun system of all PN major warships, including the Jacinto-class patrol ships, Gregorio del Pilar offshore vessels, the Conrado Yap-class corvette, the Jose Rizal-guided missile frigates, and the Miguel Malvar class-frigates that are still in the process of being delivered.
This weapon system has a high rate of firepower, can be armed with a variety of specialized ammunition, and compact enough to be installed in small warships.
Meanwhile, the PN is allocating PHP441.18 million for the acquisition of 16,000 35mm HEI-T or high explosive incendiary with tracer rounds. Details for this project are similar to the acquisition of the PN's 76mm HEPD rounds.
The 35mm autocannon is one of the secondary gun systems of the PN. (PNA)
