MANILA -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Air Force (PAF) have partnered up to intensify maritime domain awareness (MDA) operations within the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) Joint Operations Area.
In a statement on Wednesday, the PCG said the collaboration was made during the courtesy visit of Nolcom Commander, Air Force Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca at the PCG National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila on Tuesday.
"The said undertaking is aligned with the vision of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr., for the PCG to strategically heighten MDA within the country's waters," it said.
During the visit, PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan and Buca discussed the conduct of regular MDA operations within the Nolcom's Joint Operations Area.
The Nolcom delegation also presented its concept of operations on external security operations.
Nolcom is the Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP) unified command in charge of the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon, including the Scarborough Shoal and the Benham Rise.
The PCG delegation was composed of Deputy Commandant for Operations Vice Admiral Edgar Ybañez, Acting Deputy Commandant for Administration Rear Admiral Joeven Fabul, and Chief of Coast Guard Staff Rear Admiral Hostillo Arturo Cornelio.
On the other hand, the Nolcom delegation included Commander Joint Task Force Karagatan, Commodore Edward Ike de Sagon; Chief Unified Command Staff, Army Col. Gracioso Merioles PA; and Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Plans U5, PAF Col. Thurman Fanugao. (PNA)
