MANILA -- The Philippine Navy (PN) will be deploying one of its offshore patrol vessels, the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16), to take part in the fifth "Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo" (MNEK) which will take place in Bali, Indonesia from Feb. 15 to 22.

PN spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos, in a press briefing Tuesday, said the Philippine Marine Ready Force will be sending a naval task group that includes BRP Ramon Alcaraz that is "committed to figure in various surface and non-warfare related events and serials."

"As a major exercise in the region, MNEK focuses on enhancing relations and cooperation among participating nations in maritime security operations and humanitarian assistance and disaster response. This exercise allows the PN to deepen ties with regional and global partners, promoting maritime security through combined operations and discussions," he added.

Also, by participating in MNEK's international fleet review and the maritime security symposium, Alcos said the PN reaffirms its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The MNEK is a military exercise of the Indonesian Navy and is annually held between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. The first iteration of the naval exercise took place in 2014 in Indonesia's Batam City. (PNA)
