U.S. SERVICE MEMBERS AMONG DEAD IN CRASH

KABUL, Afghanistan - Thirteen of the 16 people who are confirmed dead in the crash of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter Wednesday have been identified as U.S. service members.

The three other confirmed dead were civilians employed by U.S. government contractors. Two U.S. service members remain unaccounted for. A total of 18 people were listed on the flight manifest.

Recovery work at the crash site will resume upon the arrival of a Mortuary Affairs team that will care for the remains of the dead. The team is en route from Bagram Airfield with an expected arrival this morning.

The names of the dead are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The cause of the crash will be investigated.
