- Insurgent Attacks on Troops Decrease AFPS 08 Oct 2004 -- Despite what is predominantly reported by civilian media outlets, the number of attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq has decreased, the deputy operations director for Multinational Force Iraq said today during an interview from Baghdad.
- Army Reserve Speeds Iraqi Army Training AFPS 08 Oct 2004 -- The U. S. Army Reserve's 98th Division (Institutional Training) is heading to Iraq to take the lead in a historic training venture. The reserve division will speed the training of the new Iraqi army and provide command and control as part of the U.S. Army's new Foreign Army Training Assistance Command, or FA-TRAC.
- COALITION FORCES STRIKE AIF SAFE HOUSE IN FALLUJAH CENTCOM 08 Oct 2004 -- Multi-National Force-Iraq struck an Abu Musab al-Zarqawi safe house in northwest Fallujah on the morning of October 8. Credible intelligence sources confirmed Zarqawi leaders were meeting at the safe house at the time of the strike. The precision strike occurred at 1:15 a.m. Central Baghdad Time. Intelligence sources confirmed that the safe house was being used by the group to meet and plan attacks against Iraqi civilians, Iraqi Security Forces, and Multi-National Forces.

Jean Arnault, the UN secretary-general's special representative, says the disarmament of Afghan factional militias has fallen short of expectations. - Aviles Sworn in as 30th Under Secretary of the Navy 08 Oct 2004 -- Secretary of the Navy Gordon England today swore in Dionel M. Aviles as the 30th under secretary of the Navy in an informal ceremony held in the Pentagon. A formal ceremony will be scheduled at a later date. In this capacity Aviles serves as the deputy and principal assistant to the secretary of the Navy and acts with full authority of the secretary in the day-to-day management of the Department of the Navy.
- Canadian Forces Contribute Maritime Surveillance Assets to NATO's Campaign Against Terrorism Department of Defence/Canadian Forces 08 Oct 2004 -- Two Canadian Forces (CF) CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft and more than 65 air force personnel are deploying to Sigonella, Italy this month on Operation SIRIUS , Canada's participation in a NATO Campaign Against Terrorism mission known as Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR .
