  • Insurgent Attacks on Troops Decrease AFPS 08 Oct 2004 -- Despite what is predominantly reported by civilian media outlets, the number of attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq has decreased, the deputy operations director for Multinational Force Iraq said today during an interview from Baghdad.
  • Army Reserve Speeds Iraqi Army Training AFPS 08 Oct 2004 -- The U. S. Army Reserve's 98th Division (Institutional Training) is heading to Iraq to take the lead in a historic training venture. The reserve division will speed the training of the new Iraqi army and provide command and control as part of the U.S. Army's new Foreign Army Training Assistance Command, or FA-TRAC.
  • COALITION FORCES STRIKE AIF SAFE HOUSE IN FALLUJAH CENTCOM 08 Oct 2004 -- Multi-National Force-Iraq struck an Abu Musab al-Zarqawi safe house in northwest Fallujah on the morning of October 8. Credible intelligence sources confirmed Zarqawi leaders were meeting at the safe house at the time of the strike. The precision strike occurred at 1:15 a.m. Central Baghdad Time. Intelligence sources confirmed that the safe house was being used by the group to meet and plan attacks against Iraqi civilians, Iraqi Security Forces, and Multi-National Forces.
  • SOLDIERS CATCH SUSPECTED BOMB MAKER; 1500 ARTILLERY ROUNDS SEIZED CENTCOM 08 Oct 2004 -- Working off a tip, Task Force Baghdad troops detained a truck carrying more than 1,500 155-millimeter artillery rounds Oct. 7. This seizure is one of the largest by the task force to date.

  • IRAQ/ARMS VOA 08 Oct 2004 -- A new report by U.S. arms investigators, whose findings were released Wednesday, says Iraq had no stockpiles of illicit weapons when the United States attacked Iraq in 2003. The experts say the report is having political repercussions and will further shape the debate on intelligence reform.
  • Taking on the Terror in Iraq VOA 08 Oct 2004 -- Security remains the number one issue in Iraq, which is slated to hold its first democratic elections in early 2005. While car-bombing attacks continued, U-S and Iraqi troops launched offensives against insurgent strongholds. Iraqi and U-S officials say that the operations are part of a strategy to take control of areas being used as staging grounds for terrorist attacks.

  • U.S., Iraqi Officials Discuss Cooperative Environmental Efforts Washington File 08 Oct 2004 -- U.S. Interior Secretary Gale Norton and Iraqi Environment Minister Mishkat Al Moumin have discussed how the United States can help the new Iraqi government address environmental challenges facing the nation, according to an October 7 Interior Department press release.

  • NATO / IRAQ VOA 08 Oct 2004 -- The NATO alliance has approved a plan to send at least 300 military instructors to Iraq before elections are held there in January. VOA's Roger Wilkison reports from Brussels that the NATO instructors will be put under the command of the U.S. general in charge of rebuilding Iraq's armed forces.
