  • Coalition Forces Remain on the Offensive, Enemy Tactics Change AFPS 30 Nov 2003 -- Coalition forces remain on the offensive against anti- coalition elements, and continue stability and support operations in Iraq to enable the restoration of a free Iraq, reported Army Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, deputy director of operations, Combined Joint Task Force 7, today from Baghdad.
  • IRAQ / ATTACKS VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- The U-S military in Iraq says its troops have repelled several attempted ambushes on Sunday, killing 46 Iraqis, wounding 18, and capturing another eight in the town of Samarra, near Tikrit. The number of Iraqis killed by U-S troops may be the largest since President Bush declared an end to major combat in Iraq on May 1st.
  • IRAQ / AMBUSH VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- Two South Korean contractors in Iraq have been killed and two others wounded in an ambush, north of Baghdad. This was the latest of several roadside attacks in Iraq in the past two days, targeting citizens of countries allied with the United States.

  • RUMSFELD / NATO VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- U-S Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says there is no reason for another defense organization to compete with NATO. Mr. Rumsfeld made the comments a day after European Union leaders discussed their own military planning and command group. Correspondent Meredith Buel reports, Mr. Rumsfeld is in Brussels for a meeting of NATO defense ministers (Monday).
  • New French submarine to join Pak Navy - daily IRNA 30 Nov 2003 -- The first indigenously-built French-origin Agosta 90-B class submarine `Saad` will be inducted to the Pakistan Navy fleet on December 12.
  • Surface Strike Group Deploys to Mediterranean Navy Newsstand 30 Nov 2003-- More than 1,000 Sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyers USS Cole (DDG 67) and USS Gonzalez (DDG 66), and the Spruance-class destroyer USS Thorn (DD 988) departed Nov. 29 for a scheduled Mediterranean Sea deployment in support of the global war on terrorism.

  • SPICE Delivered to the IAF Rafael 30 Nov 2003 -- Spice, also known as the "smart bomb" developed by RAFAEL Armament Development Authority Ltd., has been procured by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) for its F-16 fighter jets.

  • IVORY COAST / MILITARY VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- A group of army officers in Ivory Coast has called on French peacekeepers to leave the country so they can oust rebels from northern areas. The officials reversed an earlier decision to withdraw from the event, following the personal intervention of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
  • GENEVA/MIDEAST INITIATIVE VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- Hundreds of Israeli, Palestinian and international supporters of an unofficial Middle East peace initiative, known as the Geneva Accords, are expected to attend a signing ceremony on Monday.
  • ISRAEL/SHARON VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- Israel's prime minister, Ariel Sharon, is reportedly in disagreement with top Israeli army commanders over his plan to take unilateral action, if peace talks with the Palestinians break down. At the heart of the dispute is whether Israel should evacuate Jewish settlements in the absence of a peace agreement.
  • MIDEAST/PEACE TALKS VOA 30 Nov 2003 -- Israeli and Palestinian officials are meeting today (Sunday) to prepare a summit between their respective prime ministers. Meanwhile, U-S envoy to the Middle East William Burns is in Israel to push for implementation of the international road map to peace plan.
  • BURUNDI: Former rebels arrive in Bujumbura to take up ministerial posts IRIN 30 Nov 2003 -- French peacekeepers in Cote d'Ivoire clashed with a unit of about 100 Ivorian government troops that entered the demilitarised zone between government and rebel-held areas of the country on Sunday, damaging an Ivorian tank and injuring several Ivorian government soldiers, a well-informed military source said.
