2ND SQUADRON, 6TH U.S. CAVALRY ACTIVATES AT FORT HOOD
FORT HOOD, Texas -- An Apache helicopter unit that recently inactivated in Europe will be reactivated at Fort Hood's Sadowski Field on Friday (Sept. 12) at 9 a.m.
The 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment activates under the post's 21st Cavalry Brigade for the Unit Fielding and Training Program, a program designed to train soldiers and units on upgraded helicopter operations. The unit is scheduled to return to Illesheim, Germany, after completion of training with AH-64D Longbow attack helicopters.
In recent years the 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment has deployed to Bosnia to support operations Joint Endeavor and Joint Guard, to Albania for Operation Allied Force, and most recently to Southwest Asia in September 2002 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit took part in direct combat operations in Iraq under V Corps before returning to Germany for inactivation in June.
