- AFGHANISTAN / LANDMINES VOA 27 Jul 2002 -- Afghanistan will host an international conference on banning landmines, beginning Sunday. Delegates hope Afghan President Hamid Karzai will follow through on his commitment to join the international Mine Ban Treaty.

- SUDAN TALKS VOA 27 Jul 2002 -- Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir has met for the first time with John Garang, the leader of the country's southern rebel movement. The meeting took place (Saturday) in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, one week after government officials and rebels agreed on a framework for talks to end Sudan's 19-year-old civil war.
- INDONESIA/BOMB VOA 27 Jul 2002 -- An explosion in an Indonesia market has injured about 50 people. Police say it appears the blast in the divided town of Ambon was caused by a bomb, but they do not yet know who is responsible.
