INTRO: An explosion in an Indonesia market has injured about 50 people. Police say it appears the blast in the divided town of Ambon was caused by a bomb, but they do not yet know who is responsible. V-O-A's Kate Pound Dawson reports from our Asia News Center in Hong Kong.

TEXT: The blast occurred as people crowded the market in Ambon for early Saturday shopping. The injured included some children.

Ambon is the main city of Maluku province, more than two-thousand kilometers east of the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

Muslim-Christian violence has wracked the Maluku islands for several years, claiming at least five-thousand lives.

Saturday's explosion is the most recent of a series of violent incidents that have marred a peace deal community leaders signed in February.

/// OPT /// The police say no one has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb. /// END OPT /// (Signed)
