Camp Lightning

Camp Lightning is located close to the city of Gardez, capital of the Paktia Province in Afghanistan. As of September, 2007 soldiers stationed at Camp Lightning were responsible for the maintenance of vehicles used by US soldiers in four provinces, Paktia, Paktika, Khost and Ghazni, as well as conducting civil and public affairs, mentoring the Afghan National Army near Camp Lightning, information operations, conducting patrols in the surrounding area and arranging convoys to other U.S. outposts. The camp had about 400 soldiers in September, 2007 mostly from the South Carolina National Guard's 1st Battalion, 118th Infantry and 163rd Support Battalion.
