Pemco Aeroplex

Pemco Aeroplex, Inc. is a subsidiary of the Pemco Aviation Group with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. Pemco is located on more than 200 acres of land bordering the Birmingham International Airport. Pemco has performed programmed depot maintenance (PDM) on more than 5,000 KC-135 air refueling and C-130 cargo aircraft over more than three decades. The physical plant dedicated to aircraft maintenance is a unique Pemco asset. Pemco has ten aircraft bays, each measuring 160 feet wide by 750 feet long by 40 feet high, with more than 120,000 square feet of workspace available in each bay-well over 1 million square feet under one roof. This enables KC-135 or equivalent size aircraft to be placed in each of the ten bays and even greater numbers of smaller aircraft, such as, P-3's or fighters. Pemco traces its roots back to the early 1950's when Hayes International Corporation started operations in a defense production facility adjacent to the Birmingham Municipal Airport. Hayes began its journey into the aircraft maintenance business with the Air Force Material Command under contracts to perform aircraft maintenance, modification, and repair projects.
