Marine Aircraft Support Detachment [MASD]
The Marine Aircraft Support Detachment (MASD), Naval Air Facility, Washington DC located on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland was commissioned April 21, 1966 to maintain and operate aircraft for the operational support purposes of the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The original MASD was attached to Headquarters Battalion, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, and did not fall under the cognizance of any of the Marine Corps' Aircraft Wings.
On April 3, 1982, MASD was commissioned into the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing as a reserve detachment. Now the detachment is administratively attached to Marine Aircraft Group 49 Detachment Alpha, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, and receives operational tasking from Joint Operational Support Airlift Center (JOSAC) USTRANSCOM. The Detachment is composed of regular and reserve component Marines.
The Detachment operates (2) UC-12B turbo-prop aircraft and (1) C-20G jet aircraft.
