4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion
The 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion conducts combined arms reconnaissance and security operations as part of a Marine Air Ground Task Force to establish a designated secure area, provide combat information, reaction time, and maneuver space. On order, it conduct combined arms offensive and defensive economy of force operations to preserve the combat power of the MAGTF.
The misson of the Air Defence Platoon is to conduct low altitude Air Defence operations in support of Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion campaigns. This defence platform provides a multi-weapons capability for defence against the full range of close-in air threats.
It was activated 23 September 1987 at Camp Pendleton, California, as the 4th Light Armored Vehicle Battalion, 4th Marine Division, the unit was re-designated 01 October 1996 as the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division.
