302nd Fighter Squadron (302nd FS)

In early 2007, based on the recommendations Base Realignment and Closure Commission, the 302nd Fighter Squadron was inactivated. Its F-16s were reassigned to other units. In late 2007, the unit was reactivated at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, as first unit in Air Force Reserve Command's to fly the F-22A Raptor. The 302nd Fighter Squadron was deployed to Alaska as part of the 477th Fighter Group, a classic associate unit, in that the aircraft were the property of the active-duty Air Force, but were flown and maintained by Air Force reservists as well.
