Fleet Air Recon Squadron ONE Detachment Misawa
Composed of 45 personnel, this detachment supports temporary duty aircrew and aircraft conducting operational missions from Japan. Flying the EP-3E aircraft, VQ-1 conducts electronic reconnaissance in support of national and U. S. Naval policy objectives in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The detachment directly supports the 7th Fleet in collecting intelligence and targets of interest. The operational edge of the squadron, VQ-1 is a hardworking and responsive group of people proud of their role in the Navy and at Misawa.
NAF Misawa is the single P-3 maintenance and logistics support site for all of 7th Fleet and is the only complete P-3 aviation intermediate maintenance site in the Western Pacific. They support maritime patrol and reconnaissance forces (VP and VQ squadrons) throughout WESTPAC, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Gulf. NAF Misawa supports several Navy commands including VQ-1 Detachment Misawa, VQ-5 Detachment Five, Patrol Wing One Detachment, Mobile Maintenance Facility CHARLIE, Mobile Mine Assembly Group Unit Twelve, Navy Pacific Meteorology and Oceanography Detachment, Personnel Support Activity Detachment Misawa, Naval Communications Detachment, Fleet Imaging Facility Pacific, Navy Hospital Yokosuka Detachment, and the deployed VP squadron.
