More than 5,000 Sailors and Marines attached to ships and units of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) return to their East Coast home ports Friday following the successful completion of a six-month combat deployment. The ships include the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), the amphibious transport dock USS Trenton (LPD 14) and the dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51).

The Wasp ARG, with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (MEU (SOC)) embarked, remained deployed for nearly 100 straight days of their 189-day deployment, spending more than four and one-half months in the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Overall, the Wasp ARG steamed nearly 95,000 miles during their deployment. Along the way, the ARG participated in Operation Sea Eagle in the Gulf of Aden and numerous multi-national exercises, in addition to making a variety of port visits including Souda Bay, Crete; Kingdom of Bahrain; and Rota, Spain, before heading home.

The Wasp ARG departed Hampton Roads, Va., Feb. 22 and was relieved by the USS Nassau (LHA 4) ARG and 24th MEU (SOC) which deployed earlier this week.
