The Nassau deployed on Oct 20, 1994 with the Eisenhower Battle Group and returned in April 1995. The ships deployed Oct. 20 and conducted operations in the Mediterranean Sea, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf, Adriatic Sea and Black Sea. Steaming into the Adriatic in early January, the battle group participated in peacekeeping and sanctions enforcement operations including Deny Flight, Provide Promise and Sharp Guard. The amphibious ready group also operated as the search and rescue force in the Adriatic supporting NATO and U.N. operations.
In addition to supporting ongoing operations, the battle group enhanced U.S. ties with traditional allies and fostered new friendships with emerging nations through more than 96 bilateral and multilateral military exercises and exchanges with 20 nations.
