Saipan Expeditionary Strike Group MED 98 Deployment
LHA-2 Saipan
Omnius Fasimus: "We Do It All"
Saipan departed on her seventh deployment to the Mediterranean in July 1998. The ship spent substantial operating time in the Adriatic Sea due to turmoil in Albania. Saipan was diverted to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a possible neo-operation. But it never took place because the Americans in country made it out via commercial air. Do to this diversion, the Saipan Expeditionary Strike Group was unable to make it back to Albania to participate in the exercise COOPERATIVE ASSEMBLY. She returned to Norfolk in December of 1998.
