Military Police Battalion - Japan (Provisional)

The mission of the Military Police Battalion - Japan (Provisional) is to provide command and control over the military police units assigned to US Army Japan (USARJ), provide law enforcement and physical security in support of force protection on USARJ installations, and train to deploy military police modules in support of US Army Pacific (USARPAC) directed deployments.

The Military Police Battalion - Japan was activated as a provisional unit on 1 November 2002 at Camp Zama, Japan. The new battalion was established to provide command and control of all the military police units assigned to USARJ, and included the 247th Military Police Detachment in Okinawa and the 88th Military Police Detachment on Honshu. The Battalion provided and planned for the execution of installation security and force protection responsibilities within its area of responsibility and, on order, deployed military police modules in support of USARPAC-directed deployments. It also provided technical and tactical oversight of military police operations.
