Special Troops Battalion, V Corps
During Operation Joint Endeavor, Special Troops Battalion, V Corps deployed to Hungary where it was responsible for the installation at Taszar.
From clerks to cooks, mechanics to doctors, cavalry scouts to aviation pilots, there was a lot that goes on in the V Corps Special Troops Battalion. The Special Troops Battalion had trucks, trailers, tents, technologically complicated equipment, civilians and civilian contractors. The mission of STB was to move V Corps headquarters, set up a life-support area, and sustain a command post for the duration of the mission. The STB consisted of a whole lot of folks with over 80 military occupational skills. Whether it means tracking personnel moves or getting supplies moved, the Special Troops Battalion kept Victory Corps moving smoothly. The Special Troops Battalion did all of the reporting with the rear detachment. The Battalion also tested communication links between battalions and companies.
Soldiers in the Battalion Maintenance Operations, Special Troops Battalion, V Corps, underpin Urgent Victory 2000 with constant strength, flexibility and persistence. The Corps Battalion Maintenance Operations maintained 24-hour operability to ensure essential functions were at 100 percent. Battalion Maintenance Operations began preparation for Urgent Victory, an exercise in Grafenwoehr, Germany, early. Soldiers verified quality control and worked long hours checking generators, vehicles, equipment and planned weeks before supporting Urgent Victory,. It started with laying down all the wires, and repairing what was down. Now they maintained everything at all hours of the day.
Corps Battalion Maintenance Operations work during the exercise included power generation, with air conditioning and heating for the V Corps Main Command Post the Life Support Area, and the Jump Tactical Operation Center. The V Corps Battalion Maintenance Operations organization included 3 groups. First were wheeled vehicle mechanics to do routine service on military transport and fix broken-down equipment. Second were Prescribed Load List and Total Army Material Management System personnel to keep the inventory current, ensuring the soldiers have what they need when they need it. Last were truck Squad Missions, soldiers who were available to perform day-by-day tasks, as needed.
The power generation group was proud of its 100 percent operability since the start of Urgent Victory 2000. The test, however, came when the main command post was moved during the exercise and the tactical operation center was in action.
