North Carolina State Area Command (STARC)

The HQ STARC consists of headquarters and headquarters detachment STARC, 130th Military History Detachment, 382d Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, 42d Military Support Detachment, 440th Army Band, Selective Service System Detachment, Combined Support Maintenance Site (CSMS), 17 Organizational Maintenance Sites (OMS) Army Aviation Flight Facility #1, Army Aviation Flight Facility #2, Detachment 17 Fixed Wing OSA, Reconnaissance Air Intrastate Detachment(RAID) and Det 4/5 Medical Exam Teams (MET).

In 1999 the MPAD, MHD, Band, MET and HHD personnel supported the Summer Special Olympics World Games. The 42d MSD was activated in 1999 and has a mission to assist civil authorities during weapons of mass destruction exercises and incidents. The MPAD, MHD, Band, MET and HHD personnel supported the Summer Special Olympics World Games. STARC units performed countless support missions for units located across the state in federal and state status.
