Major Procurement Fraud Unit
The Major Procurement Fraud Unit (MPFU), through 6 subordinate field offices and 26 resident agencies conducts investigations into allegations of fraud associated with the Army's major acquisition programs. MPFU yearly recoveries often exceed the entire CID operating budget. As of 2010, MPFU investigations had resulted in over $1.5 billion returned to taxpayers.
The Commander, 701st Military Police Group (CID) was the USACIDC proponent for policy involving major procurement fraud for Department of the Army and acted as senior advisor to the Commander, USACIDC on all aspects of major procurement fraud. As such, the Commander: Investigated allegations of fraud involving procurement of major weapons and support systems within the United States Army; provided investigative support for civil and military construction contracts awarded and/or administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers; investigated significant installation level fraud related investigations; and assisted the Staff Advocate General, who had overall responsibility for the coordination of remedies in procurement fraud and corruption matters within the Army in accordance with Army Regulation 27-40.
