80th Ordnance Battalion
The 80th Ordnance Battalion was first constituted on 18 October 1927 in the Regular Army as the 6th Motor Transportation Command. On 1 May 1936, it was redesignated as the 80th Ordnance Separate Quartermaster Battalion, Light Maintenance.
In August of 1942, the Battalion was redesignated as the 80th Ordnance Medium Battalion. The Battalion was awarded 3 World War II Campaign stramers for its participation in the Rome-Arno, Central European, and Rhineland Campaigns. The unit was inactivated in 1947.
It was reactivated in 1949, with its headquarteres in Esslingen, Germany, where it remained until 1961. In 1967, the Battalion was redesignated the 80th Ordnance Battalion and was assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington as a direct and general support ammunition battalion.
In 1990, the 80th Ordnance Battalion deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The Battalion was awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation, as well as campaign streamers for the Defense of Saudi Arabia and the Liberation and Defense of Kuwait.
At Fort Lewis, Washington, the 80th Ordnance Battalion served as a multifunctional logistics battalion with the mission of providing petroleum supply, transportation, perishable subsistence, and ammunition support to active and reserve component units throughout the Pacific Northwest. It was one of the most diverse battalions on For Lewis, consisting of 5 uniques companies.
In 2008, the 593rd Corps Support Group was reorganized and redesignated as the 593rd Sustainment Brigade. The 80th Ordnance Battalion remained assigned to the unit. It subsequently activated another company, the 24th Quartermaster Company (Supply).
