734th Maintenance Battalion

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 1 December 1982, consisting of a red arrowhead point up, charged with a gold hawk's head all on a gold disc centered upon a light blue hexagon, one angle up; and all encircled by a gold tripartite scroll inscribed "MAINTAIN SUPPORT DEFEND" in red letters. Crimson and light blue are the colors traditionally associated with Maintenance. The insignia shape is that of the silhouette of a hex nut symbolizing the maintenance mission. The arrowhead at center refers to the unit's World War II service for which it was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation and French Croix de Guerre with Palm. The hawk's head denotes the unit's home location and origin in Iowa, the "Hawkeye State."
