731st Maintenance Battalion

The distinctive unit insignia was approved for the 731st Maintenance Battalion on 2 November 1979, consisting of a blue disc bearing a red machine nut centered over a gold sword, between two arching red wrenches all over a gold hemispherical gear wheel; below, with each end turned back and conjoined with the handles of the wrenches, a red motto scroll bearing in gold letters the words "FAITH AND COURAGE." Red (crimson) and light blue are the colors of Maintenance. The gear wheel, machine nut and wrenches reflect implements associated with the maintenance mission. The sword refers to the battalion's origin as Infantry. The blue disc surrounded by these elements alludes to the unit's original home, Tallassee, Alabama, which means "captured town" and suggests the Tallapoosa River which divides the town. The coat of arms was approved for the 731st Maintenance Battalion on 28 June 2001.
