710th Brigade Support Battalion
710th Main Support Battalion
"Spartan Support"

The mission of the 710th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB) is to, on order, deploy in order to provide combat service support and combat health support to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team through the full spectrum of combat operations is support of the Global War on Terrorism.

The 710th MSB had been one of the largest of the battalions within the Division Support Command (DISCOM). They provided medical, maintenance, and supply support to the separate division units, as well as back up support for the forward support battalions located at Ft Drum. They provided outload support to the division whenever brigades deploy.

710th MSB consisted of Headquarters and A Company, B Company (maintenance), C Company (medical), and D Company (transportation). They participated in some manner in virtually every training or real-world exercise that the 10th Mountain Division executes.

The reorganized 710th BSB continued many of those roles in support of the similarly reorganized 3rd Brigade Combat Team, but also recieved the forward support role for the Brigade's individual battalions. The unit still contained transportation/distribution/supply, maintenance, and medical elements. However, it also included 4 Forward Support Companies (D-G Companies), each assigned to one of the Brigade's battalions.

The 10th Mountain Division (LI) officially transformed into the modular format the Army was evolving into during a ceremony at Sexton Field on 13 September 2004. As part of the ceremony, 7 units were inactivated and 13 units were activated. Among the 7 units inactivated was the 710th Main Support Battalion, and the 13 units activated included the 710th Brigade Support Battalion. With the transformation of the entire 10th Mountain Division to the US Army's new modular force structure, the 710th Main Support Battalion, along with the entire 10th Division Support Command (DISCOM) were inactivated. 710th MSB was reactivated under the new structure as 710th Brigade Support Battalion, part of the reorganized 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

As of late spring 2006, the 710th Brigade Support Battalion was conducting operations in Afghanistan. In 2007 the Battalion returned to Fort Drum with other elements of the 3rd Brigade that had been deployed under Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan.
