642d Military Intelligence Battalion

The 642d Military Intelligence Battalion mission is to provide combat intelligence, battlefield deception, ground based communications intercept, tactical counterintelligence, interrogation of enemy prisoners of war, and ground surveillance support functions for an infantry division. It also provides support to national agencies and commanders throughout the world as required.

The 642nd Military Intelligence Battalion provides combat intelligence and electronic support to the 42nd Division. This support consists of ground surveillance, force protection, interrogation of prisoners of war, electronic support and electronic attack assets. A division's IEW systems arc organic, assigned, or operational control (OPCON) to the MI battalion. In some situations, IEW assets or units maybe attached to maneuver units.
