634th Military Intelligence Battalion

The mission of 634th Military Intelligence Battalion is to provide tactical Intelligence through asset and collection management, all source intelligence production, Intelligence Electronic Warfare Technical Control, and intelligence and targeting data dissemination in support of the 34th Infantry Division.

The 634th Military Intelligence Battalion was formed in September 1996 and is a part of the 34th Infantry Division ("34th ID"), Minnesota National Guard. The 634th MI BN is headquartered with the 34th ID in Rosemount, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis, MN.

The 634th MI BN is tasked with providing the 34th ID with vital Combat Information and Intelligence data that the Division must have in order to successfully execute its warfighting mission on any future battlefield.

The unit will help the 34th ID achieve its warfighting objectives by operating as a military intelligence operating system that can reduce its cycle time and produce intelligence in a responsive and time-sensitive manner.

The 634th MI BN operates under a new Army doctrine that calls for force projection and split base operations. Consequently, the unit was formed around the Analysis Control Element ("ACE") which itself is organized around the All Source Analysis System ("ASAS"), a component of the Army's Battle Command System. The ASAS is an electronic distributed information system designed to help a commander rapidly gather, record, analyze and relay the often huge amounts of information that comes streaming in from the modern battlefield.

The ASAS can access data from a number of different sources ranging from soldiers on the ground, to ground based sensors, to manned and unmanned aircraft, to satellites, as well as from other systems. A variety of processors receive and convert this data into usable information which is passed on to unit commanders by a variety of communication systems. While the ASAS does not itself analyze data, it can help make a trained analyst better, faster, and more productive.
